The Dragon Man

Murder on the Peninsula

The Dragon Man
Genre:
LIFE ON THE PENINSULA, just south of Melbourne, is gearing up to a hot dry Christmas. Detective Inspector Hal Challis thinks the biggest issue in his sleepy beat is how to recycle shower water. That is, until a murderer rapist strikes on the old Peninsular Highway. After a second killing, people begin to suspect a serial killer. When a third death takes place, all hell breaks loose. Hal’s own girlfriend, a journalist, publishes letters from the killer on the front page of her newspaper; the public is terrified and Hal’s wife calls him constantly from her mental health institution.

Garry Disher brilliantly entwines the personal lives of his detectives with the cases they solve. It’s their character that drives the way they solve a crime—these people are so real, you can almost see them.

This is the first Challis and Destry novel. There are also three others available, including the latest Chain of Evidence.
